Overview

The overall purpose of the Activity Director position is to provide opportunities for residents to engage in meaningful social and diversified recreation programs based upon needs, interests, capabilities, and previous lifestyles. This position must coordinate, develop, and maintain quality programs that provide mental and physical stimulation to the residents utilizing staff expertise and family and/or community resources. 

 

This position will report to the Executive Activity Director to prepare, plan and implement a successful and enriching Activity Program within their local Avalon community.

Responsibilities

 

Job duties include (but are not limited to):

  • Will be responsible for taking photos of activities on a daily basis and uploading them
  • Assesses each resident for interests, talents and previous patterns of time use, and develops activity approaches based on that assessment. 
  • Establishes and maintains necessary records regarding activities' attendance and activity care plan approaches. 
  • Develops activity goals and objectives for each resident and integrates the activity approaches within the Resident Care Plan.
  • Ensures all residents are involved in activities: group, individual and/or independent on a weekly basis. 
  • Evaluates effectiveness of programs in terms of resident outcomes
  • Lead and supervise activities according to the Activity Calendar
  • Identifies facility and community resources that can contribute to the recreation program. 
  • Plans and schedules activities and develops a monthly calendar of activities.
  • Secures entertainment, program leaders, volunteers, materials, equipment, and transportation well in advance of scheduled dates. 
  • Ensures activities are held daily and at least 2 evening activities are held per week 
  • Recruits and trains a volunteer activities staff and maintains volunteer programs that utilize community involvement. 
  • Must maintain an inventory of activity supplies and submit requisitions for replacements when necessary
  • Must attend monthly Activity Director meetings
  • Must fulfill annual continuing education requirements
  • Must stay up to date with Activity requirements within the Texas Administrative Code or Missouri Code

Qualifications

  • Prerequisites & Requirements:

    • Must demonstrate an interest in working with a senior population.
    • Current valid drivers license
    • Pass criminal history check
    • Must have either:
      • Activity Director Certification
      • at least 2 years of full time experience working in activities within the last five years
    • Must be able to express themselves in a professional manner
